Welcome

Welcome to the Incantors Colleges of Duanrahel. The Colleges are here to help teach whose belief in our fallen queen Lolthiriel and her brother Dracos is strong and wish to learn how to wield the magic, which we have called Incantation, which this faith generates.

There are three colleges of Incantation, each of which adhere to different philosophies and principles and teach a slightly differing range of spells. We encourage every prospective student to speak to each of the colleges, before making a decision as to which one suits their outlooks on life best. Each of the colleges has a master, who is in charge of the overall college. They are assisted in their duties by a provost, who is responsible for maintaining law, order and discipline within the college. The master shares the burden of guiding his college with a third person, whose title varies according to the college, but they are focused on developing the driving goal of the college.

In addition to receiving tuitions, members of the colleges have a number of duties towards Duanrahel and our war efforts, which they will be fully expected to contribute towards. These duties include maintaining the shrines of Duanrahel and leading the faithful in prayer, supporting our forces out in the field with combat magic and healing and helping to equip our forces with the production of blessed items.

The College of the Sun

The College of the Sun are the defenders of our temples, our students and of the faithful. Many of the students, who are helping our forces defend the walls of Duanrahel have come from this college. For this reason, many of the spells taught by the college are of a healing or a buffing nature i.e. they enhance the castors ability to protect.

The Paladin priestess Eilistraee is a frequent visitor to this college.

Currently, the college is lead by the following people:

  • Master Alabor D’Brassik
  • Provost Luarna Veridor
  • Chancellor Duyan Al’Mowan

The Chancellor of the College of the Sun, as well, as being responsible for organising the duties of the students, also handles the financial affairs of all three colleges.

The College of the Stars

The primary focus of the college of the stars is the search for knowledge and this is where the most scholarly of our students can be found. They are responsible for much of the teaching in the schools of Duanrahel and developing and maintaining the city’s library. The spells taught by this college are primarily of a utilitarian nature, enveloping a range of spells taught by the other colleges. This college is also a good choice for those students seeking a more balance approached than the more polarised one taught by the colleges of the Sun and Moon.

Currently, the college is lead by the following people:

  • Master Valdora Kirashaar
  • Provost Baeledor Devindraar
  • Liberian Mythel D’Targan

The Liberian is primarily responsible for the maintenance of the city’s library, as well as being head of the college’s research programmes.

The College of the Moon

The motto of this college could be summed up as attack is the best form of defence. They are as militaristic as the college of the Sun, but unlike the college of the sun, they prefer to take the battle to the enemy and it is the students of this college, who can most often be found in the field supporting our forces with battle magics. For this reason, the magics of the school are the most offensive of the three, although there is still a substantial focus on buffing spells to improve performance on the battlefield.

Currently, the college is lead by the following people:

  • Master Laneth Aleval
  • Provost Drayoth Xinlorn
  • Marshal Amriel Vanayiir

The Marshal of the college leads the colleges forces in the field.

The main shrine to Lolthiriel and the Duty of the Incantor’s Colleges

The Incantors’ colleges are responsible for maintaining Duanrahel’s main shrine to Lolthiriel and for tending the needs of those supplicants, who come to pray.

The Main Shrine

The Main Shrine is located within the same building as the ritual circle and the council chamber. It is housed in the large room to the left of the circle. The council chamber flanks the ritual circle on the other side.

The main shrine sits on the site of the first shrine, commissioned by Shaol Mistrivven, when he first came to the town of Duanrahel in 1557 to found the colleges of Incantation. Since the earliest days of the colleges, prayers have always been conducted here by the students.

As many of the Clans and Houses relocated to the city, they elected to build their own shrines within their residences and quarters. These new shrines were grander and more extravagant, than Shaol’s simple construction.

Following his death, Tallia Aryvandaar commissioned extensive renovations in his memory in 2412 and after five years work, the main shrine took on the appearance that it has today.

The portion of the white tree stolen from Morias during the assault on the city carried out by Clan’s Carncaneyar, Kerithrion and Aryvandaar, was planted here by Tyrael Aryvandaar in 2675, after the council of Duanrahel unanimously voted that it was the best location.

In 2780, consent was given for and work began on the construction of a shrine to the second Ancestor, Dracos, in a small annex at the rear of the main shrine complex.

The duties of the Incantor’s College at the Main Shrine

Students have from the Incantor’s guild have always tended the main shrine, ensuring that the candles always remained lit, looking after the white tree sapling, leading pilgrims in prayers and answering their questions. In the earliest of days, when Duanrahel was a small town, they also looked after the security of the shrine and its supplicants, but as the city grew up around the shrine and became encircled by walls, that aspect of our duties has long since become redundant.

Although the shrine never closes and is never left unattended the main hours for worship are between the hours of midday and midnight, when the council was in session in the adjacent chamber. Each of the different colleges takes responsibility for the shrine during a portion of the main worshipping hours.

  • College of the Sun Midday - 4pm
  • College of the Stars 4pm – 8pm
  • College of the Moon 8pm – Midnight

Over time to introduce new students to prayers and to set an example to the city and visiting pilgrims, it became customary for each of the colleges to perform a same rite of praise at the shrine at the start of their shift.

The Symbol of Lolthiriel

Since its inception, the Incantors colleges have begun using the symbol below to represent Lolthiriel and it can be found on many of the shrines and other memorials.

Historically, the symbol has the following meanings: Eternity, Infinity, Fire, Heat and the Flame of Love that burns all it touches. Shaol Mistrivven felt of all the ancient symbols not already claimed by the various clans, this one best symbolised what Lolthiriel means to us; a never ending love.

As a display of their faith, many students of the colleges of Incantation, have taken to wearing this symbol as an amulet around their necks. The colour of the symbol is used to indicate, which college the student belongs to:

  • College of the Sun – White
  • College of the Stars – Black and White
  • College of the Moon – Black

The Symbol of Dracos

Queen Utu’uku Mistrivven decreed that the symbol below was to be used on all Shrines and other memorials to Dracos, as it best represented his motives at the time of his death.

Historically, the symbol has meant hatred and vengeance. The deaths of his wife Kadriel, his son Shaol and his daughter Saidelia during the war, certainly gave Dracos plenty of reason to hate and much of her subsequent involvement in our cause was driven by vengeance.

Like those students who worship Lolthiriel, many of those who revere Dracos have taken to wearing this symbol on amulets in the appropriate colour from their college.

  • College of the Sun – White
  • College of the Moon – Black and White
  • College of the Stars – Black

Hymn to Lolthiriel

The hymn below forms an important part of many of the rites of worship carried out by the incantors colleges and should be mastered as soon as possible by all new students.

Products of the Incantor’s Colleges

In addition to producing soldiers, healers and researchers, the Incantors colleges, the incantors colleges also produce a number of products, which are used by the craftsmen of Duanrahel to outfit our armies. During the course of your studies, you will be taught the exact methods for making these items, but below you will find an overview of our products.

Magical Suspension

A liquid produced by a short incanting rite over the liquid at one of the city’s shrine. This forms the base of many potions produced by our alchemists.

Blessed Gems of Lolthiriel

These are only produced by the Colleges of the Stars and Moon. These are created by a rite carried out at one of the city’s shrines over a gem, imbuing it with the power of our belief. These are then fitted in weapons by the city’s blacksmiths and confer on the blade a magical enchantment.

Blessed Smithing Temper

This is not too dissimilar to magical suspension in terms of its creation, although it’s purpose is to attune a blade to be fitted with a blessed gem, so that the enchantment is not rejected.

Blessed Smithing Hammers

These are only produced by the masters of the college or the most experienced ritualists of the colleges. These are created through rituals of prayer in the city’s main ritual circle. All blades fitted with blessed gems must be crafted using blessed hammers for the enchantment to successfully take.
