Gallius' History of the Elven People's

Gallius, Library of the Forever Tale, c.440 AF

This seems to be a simple historical scholarly work conducted by a learned gentleman during the latter half of the Empire of Man. It purports to be objective but elements of prejudice from the Race Wars remain - Number One

Gallius' History of the Elven Peoples

In these modern times, when the elves are kept in their place by the Emperor's Peace, it is hard to recall that they were once the tyrants that dominated the land alongside the fairy folk. It is therefore beholden upon me as a dedicated scholar to keep the lessons of history to mind for I fear that the Empire has fallen into complacency in its height.

The notion espoused by some scholars that elves were once of a unified race is folly. One only has to look at the many different breeds of elves in the world today to see how little they actually have in common.
Pradius' history of the Race Wars states clearly that there were four breeds of elves dwelling in four territories with each having developed independently of the others. Each territory had a strong affiliation with one element of the Inner Quatrix. It seems each group of elves was the children of some kind of elemental being or ancestor, though the mathemagicians disagree with this philosophy.
The four territories held by the elves went by the names of Lorus, Sylvan, Aquillus, and Vermillion.
Tragically, around the time of the meeting between our kind and these archetypal elemental beings, there seems to have been little in the way of record keeping and so the initial relationship us unclear. However, the History of the Race Wars and other tales from that time do clearly show the malignant and controlling nature of the elves.

Least subtle were the elves of Vermillion who held our kind as slaves and forced us into slave armies to fight in their ongoing conflicts against the neighbouring Uruks. There was no justice or compassion in this breed of elf and they crushed whatever uprisings were attempted with a sure and certain strength. The people of that time displayed great courage against these tyrants but without the knowledge of magic that they kept from us, their strength was too great.

The elves of Lorus were more subtle in their controlling and dominating ways. Theirs was the betraying hand of false friendship that offered crumbs to pacify the masses whilst they kept their hand on the bread. There are tales of that time of false happiness that the wise man can see as deception.

The Sylvan elves were the most sinister and secretive breed of elves. They allowed no human settlements in their lands. Those that sought to travel through would vanish and be heard of no more. They shrouded themselves in mystery and took little part in affairs outside their borders. The tales tell that they were only seen at the Council of Estel. Though they were the last to surrender their Tome to the College of Void, and the last to be conquered, there remains some mysteries even to this day.

The elves of Aquillas stood somewhere between the manners of the elves of Lorus and the elves of Sylvan. It does seem that the flighty and curious nature of the fairy folk, with whom the Aquillas elves were close neighbours, did prompt the elves into the false friendship adopted by the elves of Lorus. Tales from Aquillas are warmest when they speak of the fairy folk. The elves of Aquillas were not as accomplished at deceit as the elves of Lorus.

Despite their differences, the elves did share common traits. Their increased longevity resulted in an inflexibility and lack of responsiveness to change. Consequently, there can be no reasoning with them. Their aptitude for magic and other traits also imbued them with insufferable arrogance and further impeded their ability to reason. If it had not been for the greatness of Tebron we would have forever languished beneath their coldness and cruelty.
However, given their unchanging nature and arrogance, the danger is ever present of their evil should they ever attain the strength to oppose the Emperor's Peace. So the lesson of history teaches us to keep them divided and weak.
